Fire Protection System Application Process:

Once the applicant applies for a permit, the plans will be reviewed by a plans reviewer. Under State Law, specifically Local Government Code 233, Montgomery County must review your plans and either approve them or reject them within 30 days. Typically a plans reviewer will review the plans within seven to ten business days. The architect or applicant will receive the plans review either approved or rejected via email after the review is completed. Payments will need to be submitted to MCESD #8 with submittal. We accept Cash, Check, Money Order & Credit Cards. To pay via credit card please use the credit card authorization form.

All Applications, plans, and paperwork must be submitted to or electronically. (cd or usb drive)

Fire Protection Permits are required for the following:

  • Sprinkler systems - New and alterations (aboveground & Underground)
  • Fire alarms - New and alterations
  • Fire protection hood and duct - New and alterations
  • Standpipe
  • Fuel Tank removal and Install
  • Smoke control systems
  • Other fixed suppression systems
  • Door Access Control
  • Elevators

Every permit pulled needs to have a completed Final inspection. Please contact the inspection department at 281-363-3473, to schedule your final inspection once all work has been completed.



The Inspection Division performs life safety inspections for numerous types of occupancies each year. These inspections include but are not limited to daycares, foster homes, assisted living facilities, massage establishments, schools, and other existing facilities.

If you would like to request a life safety inspection please fill out the life safety application. The application must be accompanied by payment. It may be mailed, hand delivered or emailed (payment pending) to our office.
