On November 5th, 2014 a little after 6:00am, a resident Robert Braden had just arrived at Legends Sports Complex for his morning workout. Mr. Braden began his workout and then collapsed, suffering a sudden cardiac arrest. Fortunate for him, there were multiple witnesses who made the split second decision to get involved. When they reached him, he did not have a pulse. They immediately began CPR and retrieved an AED that Legends has available. During this another bystander contacted 911. Within 4 minutes Montgomery County Hospital District medic 22 and South Montgomery County Fire Station 11-1 arrived and continued the care which had been initiated by the staff and bystanders of Legends. The crews quickly began advanced life support procedures and were successful in returning a pulse to Mr. Braden. He was then transferred to the hospital where he remained in critical condition for several days but was finally released without suffering any deficits from his condition.

Mr. Braden wanted to take the time to thank all those involved in giving him a second chance in life. Sudden cardic arrest is not uncommon, though 10% ofall patients who experience it live through it.

Had it not been for the quick response of the staff at Legends and the fact thy have an AED available, Mr. Braden would not have likely survived it. Pictured are those involved from the 911 dispatcher, staff at Legends and the responding Fire and EMS crews.
