SMCFD assists in search for missing child
Friday, November 14, 2014

Just before 5 pm the family of a 10 year old male determined that he was missing, they contacted the local Constables office for assistance. Montgomery County Pct 3 Constables responded to the scene, after appox. an hour he still had not been located and the temperature in the area were begining to drop. South Montgomery County Fire was then requested for the use of thermal imagers in the wooded area near the house.  Ladder 11-4 and a Chief Officer responded. Upon the arrival a brief summary of the incident was provided by the Constables on the scene and it was quickly determined that more resources would be needed.  Units on scene requested SMCFD's all-terrain vehicles and one additional mutual aid all-terrain vehicle which brought The Woodlands Fire to the scene.  While the Fire Department was preparing for the search along with multiple law enforcement officers, SMCFD dispatched our Mobile Command Unit to the scene.  For the next several hours units searched the area with the assistance of multiple neighborhood volunteers that arrived at the command post.  These volunteers were set up into search teams and provided a map and instructions on how to proceed through certain areas of the neighborhood.  At approx 10:45pm the 10 year old was located.  He was brought to the command post and immediately evaluated by EMS and reunited with his family.  He was transported to the hospital as a precautionary measure, due to the prolonged environmental exposure without adequate clothing.
